Transporting and storing glass in cold climates and cold chains presents unique challenges. Temperatures down to -40°C cause standard rubber gaskets to become brittle and crack, adhesive bonds to fail, and ordinary steel to become prone to brittle fracture. If you work in northern latitudes, transport glass for cold storage warehouses, or participate in Arctic construction projects, standard glass racks simply won't last long. Our cold-climate AGrack option is specially engineered for reliable operation at temperatures down to -40°C without losing performance in extreme cold conditions.

Glass handling challenges in cold climates

Extreme cold destroys standard glass handling equipment in three main ways:

  • Rubber component failure: Standard rubber gaskets become brittle and hard at temperatures below -10°C, losing their cushioning properties and cracking under load, leading to scratches and damage to the glass.
  • Glue failure: Adhesively bonded rubber gaskets peel away from the frame at low temperatures as the adhesive loses its bond strength, exposing bare steel that scratches the glass.
  • Brittle fracture of steel: Standard low-grade steel becomes brittle at extremely low temperatures, resulting in catastrophic frame failure under load, especially during impacts or shocks during transportation.

These failures lead to high damage rates, frequent rack replacement, and serious safety risks in cold environments. Our cold-climate AGrack option solves all these problems with material and design upgrades specifically developed for sub-zero operation.

AGrack for cold climates: rated for operation at -40°C

We have upgraded every component of our standard AGrack design to ensure reliable operation even in the coldest conditions on Earth.

Низкотемпературная резиновая прокладка EPDM, рассчитанная на -45°C

Instead of standard EPDM rubber, our cold-climate option uses specially formulated low-temperature EPDM rubber that remains flexible and cushioned even at -45°C. This rubber retains all its protective properties in extreme cold, so it won't crack, harden, or lose its ability to protect glass from scratches and impacts.

Like all our rubber gaskets, it features an internal steel core and is mechanically bolted to the frame, so adhesive doesn't fail at low temperatures, ensuring no metal contact throughout the rack's service life.

Высоковязкая сталь Q235D для ударной вязкости при низких температурах

Standard Q235A steel becomes brittle at temperatures below -20°C, but our cold-climate option uses high-toughness Q235D steel, which maintains its impact toughness down to -40°C. This steel is specifically designed for low-temperature structural applications, eliminating the risk of brittle fracture even during impacts and shocks in extreme cold.

All critical joints remain fully welded with continuous seams for maximum torsional rigidity, using special low-temperature welding electrodes to ensure weld integrity at sub-zero temperatures.

Cold conditions are often high-humidity conditions, with snow, ice, and road salt accelerating corrosion. All AGrack cold-climate units come standard with hot-dip galvanizing for maximum corrosion resistance, even when exposed to road salt and constant moisture from snow and ice. This ensures a service life of over 15 years even in harsh northern and coastal winter conditions.

Блоки AGrack для холодного климата на арктической стройплощадке

Ideal for the following cold climate applications

  • Transportation in northern regions: Transporting glass in Canada, Alaska, Scandinavia, and other regions with winter temperatures below -20°C.
  • Cold storage warehouses: Glass panels for freezers, cold storage warehouses, and food processing facilities where racks are constantly exposed to sub-zero temperatures.
  • Arctic construction projects: Mining camps, research stations, and energy projects above the Arctic Circle, where temperatures regularly drop to -40°C.
  • Winter construction: Winter construction projects in cold climates where racks are stored outdoors at sub-zero temperatures for extended periods.

Часто задаваемые вопросы

Q: What is the minimum operating temperature for AGrack cold-climate units?

Our cold climate variant is designed for continuous operation at temperatures down to -40°C, with short-term exposure down to -45°C without performance loss.

Q: Does cold affect the folding mechanism?

No. We use cold-resistant lubricant on all folding hinges and guides, which remains effective down to -40°C, so the racks fold and unfold smoothly even in extreme cold.

Q: How much more expensive are AGrack cold climate units compared to standard ones?

Блоки для холодного климата обычно дороже стандартных всего на 15-20% из-за более высокой стоимости низкотемпературной стали и резиновых компонентов.

Q: Can cold climate units be obtained in non-standard sizes and with non-standard load capacity?

Absolutely. We offer all our standard and custom AGrack configurations with cold climate material upgrades, including reinforced options for 2000 kg stone and custom window racks.
