Line-Side Storage & Warehouse 3D Storage
A metal pallet fence clips onto a flat Euro pallet and turns it into a rigid 1000 mm 3D stackable unit, lifting line-side storage density with a 2-layer stackable design, about 140 mm empty fold, and a 47–48 kg self weight that suits forklift and high-bay racking.

The line edge of a mixed-model plant keeps filling up. A production line buffer of parts and empty cartons grows sideways along the aisle, WIP storage creeps into walkways, and the floor tile at the line side is maxed long before the building is. Most teams assume they need more floor or a bigger building. They do not—the pallet already carries a full cubic envelope above it, and that envelope is being left empty every shift. The constraint is line-side parts feeding volume, not building size.
Wooden Collars and Rigid Bins Also Fail the Empty-Return Test
The usual fixes for low cube rate each break on a different axis. Corrugated cartons cap stacking at two or three layers before they shed, so the cube stays empty. A wooden pallet collar adds height but is bulky to store once empty, splinters under line-side abuse, adds wood waste, and on cross-border flows drags in ISPM 15 treatment. A rigid plastic bin is costly, fixed in height, and cannot fold, so it occupies rack and floor whether loaded or not. None of those old methods is both rigid enough to stack and thin enough to disappear when empty—so the line-side footprint keeps growing.
A Metal Pallet Fence Is Rigid Enough to Stack and Thin Enough to Fold
The Mfence metal pallet fence (metal pallet collar) is a tool-free clip assembly that seats onto a standard 1100×1100 Euro pallet and converts a flat pallet into a three-dimensional, enclosed container. The effective height of 1000 mm lifts the usable cube off the floor, and because the metal pallet fence units stack on each other in a 2-layer stackable design, a second tier of parts rides above the first on the same footprint. Crucially, it is galvanized steel: it shrugs off the oil, impact, and damp of a line-side environment where cartons and wooden collars fail, yet it folds flat when empty. That pairing—rigid when loaded, thin when empty—is what wooden and plastic alternatives cannot match.
Galvanized Steel Frame, 40×40 Tube, Four-Way Fork Entry for Racking
For the cage to carry a second tier it has to stay square under handling. The metal pallet fence is built from a welded wire mesh panel (4 mm wire, 100×100 mesh) on a 40×40 rectangular tube frame, hot dip galvanized for corrosion resistance and zero solid wood. Four-way fork entry with forklift entry limits keeps it aligned on a forklift or pallet truck, and the rigid, enclosed guard protects goods from impact during stacked transport. Because the structure is steel rather than fibre, the same unit moves from line-side buffer into a high-bay racking slot when the line slows—a logistics unit load that earns vertical space instead of begging for floor.

Two-High Stackable Turns One Floor Tile into Double Volume
Stackable 3D storage is the operating gain: two loaded metal pallet fence units nest one above the other on one floor tile, roughly doubling the parts a given line-side spot holds. The pallet-to-container conversion is repeatable and the cage is an enclosed guard, so the upper tier is stable stack rather than a tipping risk, and racking-compatible corners let it share high-bay racking. A flat pallet finally earns its cube, and warehouse storage density climbs without adding a single square metre of floor—the line edge stops spreading because it starts stacking.

Folds to About 140 mm, So the Empty Costs Almost No Floor or Return
A reusable metal collar only pays back if the empty is cheap to move and store, and this is where the metal pallet fence beats a wooden collar outright. When the buffer clears, the fence folds flat—folded dimensions about 2300×1100×140 mm—and rides back collapsible for low-volume return, so the empty occupies neither rack nor floor. At a self weight of 47–48 kg it does not add meaningful load to the pallet or the rack, and it replaces disposable packaging (cartons, wrap, wooden collars) across the loop. Faster palletizing with no wrapping, plus a folded empty that costs almost no return volume, makes the metal pallet fence a returnable packaging answer rather than another single-trip wrapper.

Recover the Cube You Already Pay For, Without a Bigger Building
The combination is a straight operating win: a flat pallet becomes a rigid 1000 mm, 2-layer stackable unit load, line-side parts feeding moves up instead of out, and the empty metal pallet fence folds to about 140 mm so the return costs no floor. With four-way fork entry it runs on the forklift and pallet truck already on the floor, and racking-compatible corners let it share high-bay racking. For a plant maxed at the line edge, that is storage density recovered from volume it was already paying for—a galvanized, reusable, enclosed cage instead of a low, wide carton pile.
